Rose Langenbein: new Music Director
07/02/2024Rose is a true fashion muse. Stylist, DJ, and the new creative mind behind the music at Senato Hotel Milano.
We asked her a few questions to get to know her better and discover the inspirations
that led her to prepare the new playlists for Senato Hotel Milano.
How did your passion for music start?
I believe you are born with it, it’s in your genes. I only remember we all sang German songs called Schlager with my mom, when we were kids. I am the eldest of four girls. We literally were learning the vocals by heart. I started collecting singles and records even before my teenage years. If i remember correctly, the first single I bought was Daddy Cool from Boney M. This Band was produced by Frank Farian, the one who later made Milli Vanilli big. Furthermore I was driven by this feeling: I couldn’t imagine a life without music in it.
How did you work on creating the playlists for Senato Hotel Milano?
First of all the offer for becoming the Music Director for Senato Hotel Milano happily surprised me. I got an initial briefing from the Creative Director of the hotel and that was that, LOL.
I started to collect songs in one playlist, and I remember that I was confused on how to sort them out for the different moments of the day. It was literally mind fucking my knowledge of music hehe. However, I spent time in the Hotel in Milan and there I started to fill in the playlists easily. People could see me sitting in the lobby or in the breakfast area, perhaps hearing me singing. In reality I was only switching the world off and putting my music on.
What music have you chosen for Senato Hotel Milano?
I would describe it as a mix of easy listening, as well as emotionally evoking. I am hoping that people will somehow go "aha! I know this song of course" while at the same time make them really discover some much lesser now contemporary tunes they may take home with them. All the playlists are sparkled with a good number of electronic vibes: something I never got detached from ever since I was DJing in the 90s during the "Techno Era". I feel this mix absolutely represents the DNA of the Hotel from my POV.
They will be available for the Hotel customers and on Spotify: is the music background or protagonist?
To be frank, I really wanted to create both. Not to disturb the customers but also to make sure they get attracted to different songs or tunes, to make them feel comfortable and perhaps even drowned in memories. Music On | World Off (that’s my Whatsapp unavailable motto by the way).
How do you describe your style in one word?
