A Must-See retrospective of Jean Tinguely
10/11/2024To celebrate the eve of the centenary of the birth of Jean Tinguely, one of the pioneers of kinetic art, Pirelli Hangar Bicocca in Milan is hosting the largest Italian retrospective ever dedicated to the Swiss artist.
In this evocative 5,000 square meter space, his animated sculptures, from the méta-mecaniques of the 1950s to the "musical machines ’ inspired by Formula 1, create a unique choreography of sounds, colors, and movement, where common objects are transformed into true dynamic works of art.
What to expect from the exhibition
The exhibition, curated by a team of international experts and organised in collaboration with the Tinguely Museum in Basel, can be visited until 2 February 2025. It explores Tinguely's experimental approach, which frees his machines from the "tyranny of utility ’ to propose an ephemeral and interactive art, a hymn to the unpredictability of life itself.
